The Destruction of Jerusalem

¹⁵ But the Lord, the God of their ancestors sent word against them by the hand of his messengers, sending them time and time again,^(A) for he had compassion on his people and on his dwelling place.

¹³ Now, because you have done all these things—this is the Lord’s declaration—and because I have spoken to you time and time again^[a] but you wouldn’t listen,^(A) and I have called to you, but you wouldn’t answer,^(B)

²⁵ Since the day your ancestors came out of the land of Egypt until today, I have sent all my servants the prophets^(A) to you time and time again.^[a](B)

³ “From the thirteenth year of Josiah son of Amon,^(A) king of Judah, until this very day—twenty-three years—the word of the Lord has come to me, and I have spoken to you time and time again,^[a](B) but you have not obeyed.

⁵ and by listening to the words of my servants the prophets^(A)—whom I have been sending to you time and time again,^[a](B) though you did not listen—

¹⁹ I will do this because they have not listened to my words”—this is the Lord’s declaration—“the words that I sent to them with my servants the prophets time and time again.^[a](A) And you too have not listened.” This is the Lord’s declaration.

³³ They have turned their backs to me and not their faces.^(A) Though I taught them time and time again,^[a](B) they do not listen and receive discipline.

¹⁴ The words of Jonadab, son of Rechab, have been carried out. He commanded his descendants not to drink wine, and they have not drunk to this day because they have obeyed their ancestor’s command. But I have spoken to you time and time again,^[a](A) and you have not obeyed me! ¹⁵ Time and time again^[b] I have sent you all my servants the prophets, proclaiming, “Turn, each one from his evil way,^(B) and correct your actions. Stop following other gods to serve them.^(C) Live in the land that I gave you and your ancestors.” But you did not pay attention or obey me.^(D)

⁴ So I sent you all my servants the prophets time and time again,^[a](A) saying, ‘Don’t commit this detestable action that I hate.’
