⁵ “In fact, God knows that when^[a] you eat it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

¹⁹ I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Choose life^(A) so that you and your descendants may live, ²⁰ love the Lord your God, obey him, and remain faithful^[a] to him. For he is your life, and he will prolong your days as you live in the land the Lord swore to give to your ancestors^(B) Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

²³ For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.^(A)

⁶ however, she who is self-indulgent is dead even while she lives.^(A)

¹⁵ Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and when sin is fully grown, it gives birth to death.^(A)
